Last Updated: October 31, 2025

Welcome to our Aurelo - AI-Powered Bible Study platform ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully.

1. Information We Collect

A. Personal Information

We collect information that personally identifies you when you choose to share it with us.

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.

B. User-Generated Content

We collect the data you create while using our Service:

  • Personal Notes: Any notes you write and save for specific Bible verses.
  • Highlights: The verses you highlight and the colors you select.
  • Bookmarks: The verses you bookmark for future reference.

This User-Generated Content is stored in our database and linked directly to your account.

C. AI Chat Information

  • Chat Queries: We process the questions you send to our AI assistant to generate a response.
  • Ephemeral History: Your chat conversation history is maintained on your device (in your browser) to provide context for follow-up questions during your session. We do not permanently store your chat history in our database or link it to your personal account.

D. Automatically Collected Information

Like most websites, we may collect non-personal information automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, and operating system. This data is used for analytics and to improve the security and functionality of our Service.

E. Analytics & Cookies

We use Google Analytics to help us understand how people use Aurelo so we can improve the platform. Google Analytics collects anonymous usage information, such as pages visited, time spent, and device/browser data. This data does not include your notes, highlights, bookmarks, or private study activity.

We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and to remember your preferences. You can block cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work properly.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and Manage the Service: Authenticate your login, save your notes, bookmarks, and highlights, and allow you to access them.
  • Process AI Queries: Send your questions (and relevant, non-personal Bible text) to our third-party AI provider (Google Gemini) to generate answers.
  • Improve Our Service: Understand how users interact with the platform to fix bugs and improve features.
  • Maintain Security: Protect against fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With Third-Party Service Providers: We share your AI chat queries with Google's Generative AI (Gemini) service, which acts as a processor to generate answers. These queries are not linked to your personal account information (email) when sent.
  • For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process.
  • To Protect Our Rights: We may share information to enforce our policies, investigate potential violations, or protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or others.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics. Google may process anonymized data according to their privacy practices. No personal identifying information (such as email or study notes) is sent to Google.

Your personal User-Generated Content (notes, highlights, bookmarks) is kept private and is not shared with any third parties, except as required for data storage and backup.

4. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. Your password is cryptographically hashed, and all personal data is stored in a secured database. However, no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Choices and Rights

You have control over your personal information:

  • Account Information: You can access and update your account information (e.g., change your password) on your Account page.
  • User-Generated Content: You can edit or delete your notes, bookmarks, and highlights at any time through the Bible Study interface.
  • Account Deletion: You may request to delete your account by contacting us. This will permanently remove your account information and all associated User-Generated Content.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.

8. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us using the "Get in Touch" form on our website.

9. Third-Party Services

Aurelo uses trusted third-party providers to help operate the platform, such as Google Analytics for usage analytics and Formspree for contact form submissions. These services only receive the information necessary to perform their functions, and they process data according to their own privacy policies.

10. Your Data Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to request access to your data, request deletion, or request correction. Contact us to make such a request.

11. Your Notes & Study Data

Your notes, highlights, bookmarks, and study activity belong to you. They are not used to train AI models, sold, analyzed for advertising, or shared with outside parties except as necessary to operate the service. We do not monitor or review your notes unless required by law or to resolve a security/legal issue you report.
